The Facts about Address Resolution Service

While required Move Update services like NCOALink® processing provide updates regarding moves on file with the USPS®, value-added services like BCC's Address Resolution Service (ARS) can be used to further improve address quality, boost the number of deliverable records within a list and reduce the amount of return mail in future mailings to ensure maximum postal ROI.

Using enhanced third-party database access, ARS complements traditional CASS™ encoding by attempting to correct addresses that were unable to receive a nine-digit ZIP Code™ during the encoding process due to missing apartment or suite information, for example.

These undeliverable records can be electronically submitted for ARS processing through the Data Services Wizard within Mail Manager and quickly returned to the mailing list for subsequent Move Update processing.

Without using ARS, addresses left with only a 5-digit ZIP Code must either be mailed at a higher postage rate and risk coming back as return mail, or the records must be removed from the mailing list, and an opportunity to reach potential customers is lost.

Average match rates for ARS are 30%, with some mailers seeing rates as high as 80% depending on the type of mailing.

A BCC customer, volunteering for the American Red Cross, used ARS to help that organization reach more donors and lower their upfront costs. (Read this Success Story for details.)
